KTVZ

The Family Access Network said Thursday it has received a $5,000 Community Action Grant from Facebook, which will be used to connect disadvantaged students at Crook County High School in Prineville to basic-need services such as nutritious food, warm clothing, health care, safe housing and much more.

Through the Crook County High School FAN advocate, these funds will provide 50 vulnerable children with FAN advocate services for an entire school year, allowing them to attend and stay in school.

“We are so excited that Facebook has chosen to support FAN at Crook County High School. Their commitment to making Crook County a better place goes hand in hand with FAN’s mission, and we’re grateful to have them here in Central Oregon.” Julie Lyche, FAN Executive Director.

Facebook’s presence in Central Oregon began in 2011, when they built their first state-of-the-art, energy efficient data center in Prineville. The social media giant is now one of the largest employers in Crook County, who also strives to give back to the community they operate in. Since its opening in Prineville, Facebook has given almost $1.5 million dollars to Crook County schools and nonprofits.

Unique to Central Oregon, FAN has been improving the lives of local children since 1993. FAN currently employs 25 advocates in 52 public schools (K-12) and early childhood sites in Deschutes and Crook counties. By ensuring that children have access to basic-need services, FAN enables our region’s most vulnerable children to truly thrive in school and life.
