Tualatin man dies in Hwy. 22 crash near Santiam Pass
(Update: Fair listed in fair condition)
A Tualatin man was killed and a Redmond woman was injured in a head-on crash Monday morning on icy Highway 22 near Santiam Pass, Oregon State Police reported Tuesday.
OSP and emergency personnel responded around 8 a.m. Monday to the two-vehicle crash on the highway near milepost 78 in Linn County, Lt. Cari Boyd said.
A preliminary investigation determined Tarah Fair, 27, of Redmond, was heading west at the wheel of a 2005 Kia Sorrento when she lost control on the icy roadway surface, Boyd said.
Fair’s SUV crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2008 Nissan Sentra driven by Michael T. Hunt, 37, of Tualatin, who died at the scene. Fair was flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries, Boyd said. A hospital spokeswoman said she was in fair condition late Tuesday afternoon.
The eastbound lane of Highway 22 was closed by the crash for about five hours, with one lane of travel open for alternating traffic, Boyd said.
OSP was assisted at the scene by crews from the Sisters-Camp Sherman, Idanha-Detroit and Gates rural fire districts and ODOT.
