Prineville man arrested in violent home invasion
A Prineville man who police said “may have been under the influence of a drug” kicked in the front door of a sleeping woman’s home early Friday morning, entered her bedroom, got on her bed and damaged another door in the home before running out and being arrested by police.
Kevin Patrick Hurley, 30, made his first court appearance Monday on five charges in the alleged home invasion, including first-degree burglary, assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest, third-degree escape and second-degree criminal mischief. He is being held on $70,000 bail pending arraignment on a formal indictment Friday, court records showed.
Police Capt. Larry Seymour said police, assisted by Crook County sheriffs deputies, responded shortly before 3 a.m. Friday to the reported home invasion in the area of Northwest Fourth Street.
The woman said the man later identified as Hurley, broke in, came into her bedroom, got onto her bed and damaged another door, then ran out. Police found Hurley outside the home and he was taken into custody.
After Hurley was handcuffed and while talking to police, he turned from the officers and began running away, but only made it a few steps before he was stopped by officers, Seymour said. During his attempt to escape, Hurley allegedly injured an officer’s hand, though the officer did not seek medical attention.
Seymour said the woman did not know Hurley and that police “believe he may have been under the influence of a drug.” He said no more information would be released in the case.
