New Sisters bike park nears completion

KTVZ

A project several years in the making is wrapping up soon in Sisters. Some finishing touches are being put on the city’s own bike park this weekend.

The project started several years ago and has been slowly taking shape. Bike Park 242, named after the McKenzie Pass Highway (state Highway 242), sits next to the Sisters Parks and Recreation District building, near Sisters High School.

According to Casey Meudt, one of the people behind the park, it began as an idea to enhance the community about four years ago and has been slowly taking shape ever since.

“We see a lot of kids around building jumps here or there, and we wanted to provide a safe, sustainable place for them to be able to progress and help out, rather than just building jumps in random construction areas,” he said.

In addition to those jumps, there will be several other elements. “Kind of the main four aspects of the park, we have two pump tracks, the jump lines, as well as some wood and rock skills features,” Meudt said.

Bike Park 242 sits on roughly 1.5 acres, and has been built in several phases. In 2015, the first phase brought a pump track, then a larger riding circuit was added, and over the weekend, volunteers will be putting some final touches on the bike park.

“This Saturday, we’re having a work party. We’re going to be installing the entrance sign, we’re going to be doing some work on the skills features, wood construction, some rock moving,” Meudt said.

He said they’re looking for volunteers to help out, and a soft opening is expected in a few weeks, with a grand opening party in June.
