NeighborImpact offers Goal Savers match savings program

KTVZ

The local nonprofit NeighborImpact is helping Central Oregonians take pride in saving towards a personal goal and bettering their financial future by offering Goal Savers matched savings accounts to residents of Crook, Jefferson and La Pine.

In the Goal Savers program, participants identify a specific financial goal to be accomplished upon completion of the program. This goal is entirely individualized, and could be anything that helps the person move towards financial stability, from saving to be able to rent a place of their own, to repairing a car to maintain employment, to paying an old debt that’s affecting their credit, saving for trade school and more.

Individuals admitted into the program then begin putting money away toward this goal. For every $1 saved by the participant, a $1 match is contributed to the account, allowing them to double their savings to a maximum of $2,000. Participants can be in the program a minimum of four months and a maximum of 1 year.

By enrolling in the program, participants gain a financial incentive for contributing to a savings account regularly, in addition to the knowledge and tools necessary for navigating the financial world.

“The support, advice and resources I gained through working with the NeighborImpact staff was invaluable,” said one matched-savings client. “I gained valuable knowledge of the financial language that used to baffle me and I have built my credit up significantly.”

Individuals interested in participating in the Goal Savers program can find out if they are eligible by completing an eligibility questionnaire at www.neighborimpact.org/goalsavers and/or by attending one of the weekly Program Orientation Sessions
