OSP IDs 2 motorcyclists killed in S. Oregon DUII crash
(Update: OSP IDs motorcyclists, says drugs believed to be involved)
Two motorcyclists were killed on state Highway 234 near Eagle Point on Saturday night when they were struck nearly head-on by a car whose juvenile driver was arrested on a DUII charge, Oregon State Police said.
OSP troopers and emergency personnel responded around 8:30 p.m. to the reported crash in Jackson County, Captain Tim Fox said.
A preliminary investigation found that a black Harley-Davidson carrying two people were heading east on the highway when a silver Ford Mustang struck them, Fox said.
Both of the motorcycle riders suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, Fox said. The three juveniles in the Mustang were unhurt and the driver was arrested at the scene on DUII charges. He said it’s believed controlled substances (drugs) and not alcohol were involved.
Troopers on Monday identified the motorcyclists as operator Daniel Lawrence Foster, 60, and passenger Catherine Denise Hock, 54, both of Trail. They said the juveniles’ names are not being released at this time.
The crash and investigation shut the highway for about 3 1/2 hours. OSP said it was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Fire District 3 and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
