Small brushfire stopped near downtown Bend
A small brushfire that broke out on a rock ledge above Wall Street north of downtown Bend Tuesday afternoon was quickly put out by firefighters who stopped it from reaching a nearby storage building.
Crews responded just before 4 p.m. to the blaze, south of Revere Avenue, which was moving south and was about 10 feet from the storage building, Battalion Chief Dave Howe said.
Crews were able to stop the fire and confine it to about 1,000 square feet. Howe said the cause was under investigation, but it’s presumed to be human-caused.
“The fuels, grass and brush, are quite dry and susceptible to ignition, if it is still green,” Howe said in a news release, asking the community to take care with sources of ignition as warmer weather arrives.
“Although the exposed building did not ignite, a few more minutes without fire department intervention and it would have started burning, Howe said.
