Fire breaks out along Hwy 26 at Warm Springs
A fire broke out along U.S. Highway 26 at Warm Springs Monday evening, closing the highway for about an hour as many travelers headed home from the Memorial Day weekend.
Motorist John Stevens said he was the last car let through around 7:10 p.m. after the fire broke out across the street from the Eagle Crossing Restaurant, near the bridge over the Deschutes River.
Stevens was on hand when Warm Springs Fire and Safety crews were arriving on scene and a spot fire, presumably from an ember, also began on the restaurant’s roof.
ODOT’s Trip Check page showed a closure at milepost 105 of Highway 26 and later said there was “limited visibility causing no to minimum delays, use caution.”
