Sprinklers douse SW Redmond kitchen fire
(Update: Correcting address, adding Red Cross info)
Automatic sprinklers put out a grease cooking fire on a kitchen stove in a southwest Redmond apartment early Friday, but damages were estimated at $10,000, officials said.
Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called to a four-plex at the High Desert Commons Apartments in the 2200 block of SW Canal Boulevard shortly before 12:30 a.m., Battalion Chief Jeff Puller said.
Crews found that the sprinklers had put out the cooking grease fire on the stove even before they arrived, Puller said.
There were no injuries reported. The apartment sustained moderate fire damage, along with water damage to two other apartments.
Puller said the American Red Cross responded for assistance to residents of the three affected apartments.
The Red Cross said it sent disaster responders to help the six adults and two children affected by the fire, to address immediate basic needs such as temporary housing, food and clothing.
