NE Bend triplex fire traced to food left on stove

KTVZ

A fire that caused an estimated $50,000 damage to a northeast Bend triplex unit Wednesday night was traced to an unattended pot of food left on a stove, officials said.

Bend firefighters responded around 7:20 p.m. to the reported fire in the 600 block of Northeast 10th Street, Battalion Chief Dave Howe said. They arrived to find smoke showing from the eaves, made entry and found the fire in the kitchen, which they knocked down quickly.

Damage was confined to one of the three units, Howe said.

American Red Cross disaster responders were called in to help two adults and a pet with their immediate basic needs.

“The Bend Fire Department reminds you to ensure that all appliances are positively off before you leave the house,” Howe added.
