CANBY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say three people died after a car crashed into a group of trees south of Portland near Canby.

Media outlets report a vehicle went off a road about 7 miles south of Canby and crashed into the trees at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Clackamas County Sgt. Brian Jensen says the car was split in half when deputies found it.

Jensen says the driver survived and is in a hospital.

He says speed and possible impairment are suspected.

Authorities say all the occupants in the car appeared to be young adults in their 20s.

Neighbors told KGW there have been several crashes in this spot, which has a dip in the road.
