Crews stop 2-acre grass fire in NW Redmond

KTVZ

Redmond firefighters stopped a fast-moving two-acre grass fire that threatened some homes Friday evening along Northwest Canal Boulevard, east of The Home Depot and west of Highway 97, officials said.

Crews were called to the 2100 block of Canal Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. and found the fire to be about an acre in size, with several residential exposures, Capt. Bill Welch said. Crews provided structural protection, then attacked the main far to stop its spread to the south.

The fire area was bordered by Highway 97 to the east, but traffic was not disrupted, Welch said.

About a dozen firefighters were called out, he said, and it took them about three hours to extinguish the fire, which burned about two acres but did not damage any structures.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Mutual-aid assistance was provided by Oregon State Police, ODOT and the Redmond Fire Department.
