La Pine firefighters stopped a fire burning on the exterior of a home’s garage Saturday afternoon before flames could get inside, officials said.

La Pine Rural Fire District crews responded around 3 p.m. to a home in the 16600 block of Oakridge Place, Fire Chief Mike Supkis said. Two engines responded with 12 firefighters.

Crews found the fire burning on the exterior of the attached garage and were able to quickly knock it down within minutes of arrival, he said. The fire breached a window but was contained before it could enter the residence.

The homeowner was away for the day, Supkis said, and the fire’s cause was under investigation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Supkis said they are looking closely at the cedar bark mulch in the area of origin.
