Man dies in jump to escape Portland apartment fire
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man in his 50s died after jumping from a third-story apartment to escape a fire in Southwest Portland.
News outlets report the fire Friday afternoon damaged at least four units in the complex.
Neighbors told KATU-TV that the man was reluctant to jump but didn’t have other options because the flames continued to grow in his apartment.
Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman Lt. Tommy Schroeder says no one else was injured and the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
The identity of the man who died hasn’t been released.
