Driver arrested in south-county injury DUII crash

A 21-year-old south Deschutes County woman was arrested on drunken driving and other charges early Wednesday after a crash that injured four passengers, two seriously, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday to the reported crash in the 56000 block of Snow Goose Road in the Oregon Water Wonderland II subdivision south of Sunriver, Sgt. William Bailey said. The initial information was that a car had crashed into a tree.

Arriving deputies contacted Dayton Sauer, 21, driver of the green 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, who told them she was driving north on Snow Goose Road and was going too fast for a curve when she crashed, Bailey said.

During the investigation, the deputy developed probable cause to believe Sauer was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and booked into the county jail in Bend on DUII-alcohol, two counts of third-degree assault, reckless driving, four counts of reckless endangering and two counts of criminal mischief.

A jail officer said Sauer was released around 1 p.m. Wednesday after posting 10 percent of her $80,000 bail.

Front-seat passenger Julianne Pade, 20, also of the south-county area (with a Bend address), was flown by Life Flight air ambulance to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries, Bailey said. She was later flown to OHSU in Portland, where a hospital spokeswoman said she was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Rear-seat passenger Andrew Aguilera-Anderson, 21, of Salem, also was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the Bend hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon, according to a House supervisor.

Two rear-seat passengers, William Larson, 20, of Bend, and south-county resident Renea Sauer, 19, received minor injuries and were given a courtesy ride to a home in the area, the sergeant said.

The crash, and whether the occupants were wearing seat belts, is still under investigation.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Sunriver police and fire departments, La Pine Rural Fire Protection District and Life Flight, Bailey said.
