CHELAN, Wash. (AP) – Evacuation orders have been lifted for a wildfire near Chelan, Washington.

The grass fire covers 2.8 square miles (7.2 square kilometers). It was 40 percent contained by Sunday morning.

Officials have reopened U.S. Highway 97, although they warned there may continue to be sporadic closures.

But they have lifted mandatory evacuation orders for the Chelan Hills area.

Fire spokesman Michael Krueger says most of the potential danger from the fire has passed, barring high winds.
