Girl in Portland hospital after fall from parade float

KTVZ

NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – A girl flown to a Portland hospital after falling from a parade float has survived.

Newberg-Dundee police say the 6-year-old fell Saturday while riding a float at the Old Fashioned Festival Parade in Newberg. The accident happened near the fire station. Medics quickly treated the girl, who was then flown by Life Flight helicopter to a Portland hospital.

The girl’s parents tell KGW-TV that initial scans showed that their daughter might have suffered a punctured lung, fractured skull and minor brain bleed. But a neurosurgeon later cleared Eden Sainton of all the issues and she’s expected to make a full recovery.

In photos provided to the station, the girl’s face is banged up, but she’s able to give the thumbs up signal from her hospital bed.
