Corbett resident shoots, kills 2 cougars near chicken coop
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says a resident in Corbett shot and killed two cougars that were trying to get inside a chicken coop.
David Callister told KGW-TV he was walking from a home on Larch Mountain Road to a trailer where he stays when he nearly stepped on the tail of what turned out to be a cougar under his pickup truck.
Callister said he yelled at the cougar and got a loud hiss in return. He said he was surprised and alarmed it was not spooked and instead “was staring me down.”
There were two cougars, he said, and “one was starting to tear into the chicken coop,” so after warning shots, he shot and killed both.
Sgt. Brandon White says Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife had been notified, but he didn’t anticipate any charges against the homeowner.
