Prineville father arrested for injuries to twin infants
A 26-year-old Prineville man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for assault and criminal mistreatment, accused of injuring his twin 1 1/2-month-old children in July, causing several fractures, police said.
Police said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on July 18 on Northwest Fifth Street. That led to an investigation that resulted to the arrest of Justin Michael Viescas.
An investigation found the twin 43-day-old children had several fractures that were examined at St. Charles Prineville and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
“The medical conclusion indicated the injuries to the children were caused by non-accidental trauma,” police said in a news release.
Viescas was arrested around 2:20 p.m. on the Crook County warrant after a grand jury indicted him on two counts each of third-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment. Soon after being booked into the county jail, Viescas posted 10 percent of his $15,000 bail and was released.
Prineville police were assisted in the investigation by Oregon State Police in Portland and Ontario and the state Department of Human Services Child Welfare.
