Car hits RPA school bus; no serious injuries
(Update: Car’s driver cited for running stop sign)
A car struck the side of a small Redmond Proficiency Academy school bus at an intersection about a block from its campus Thursday afternoon, causing no serious injuries, police confirmed.
A witness said all of the dozen or so students aboard the bus quickly got out of the rear emergency exit of the bus after the collision, reported around 2 p.m. at the corner of Northwest 23rd Street and Antler Avenue
Police and medics were on scene quickly, but there were no initial reports of any serious injuries, though all were being evaluated for any pains, scrapes or bruises.
Redmond police Sgt. Aaron Blackledge said the Jeep wagon struck the left rear of the bus at the intersection as the driver apparently failed to yield to the bus.
“Luckily no real injuries, just minor bumping around kind of stuff,” Blackledge said. “All the kids were kind of shook up from the whole incident.”
The Jeep’s driver was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device (the stop sign), officers said.
