Wind-fanned fire destroys Juniper Canyon home

A wind-fanned fire destroyed a home in Juniper Canyon southeast of Prineville Friday afternoon and also spread to surrounding grass and trees before crews got it stopped, officials said.

Crook County Fire & Rescue responded around 3:20 p.m to the fire on Southeast Remington Road. Fire Chief Matt Smith said they sent two engines, two water tenders, an ambulance and 11 firefighters, who arrived to find the house engulfed in flames.

The fire was contained the property of origin before 5 p.m. and crews were in mop-up operations.

The occupant was home at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries, Smith said.

The home was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
