Breaking News: 12 dead in California bar mass shooting
Multiple fatalities have been reported at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California in a mass shooting.
Authorities have confirmed that at least 11 civilians and a Ventura County Sheriff’s Sergeant were killed. The gunman is also dead. Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said the total number of people dead is 13, including the suspect. Authorities said many other people were injured and taken to area hospitals.
Local authorities said they received multiple calls around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Sheriff Geoff Dean with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said several agencies responded to the scene. Dean said this is a horrific incident and there is blood everywhere in the bar.
Authorities also said students were screaming and running out of the bar. Some patrons used chairs to break windows and help people crawl out.
Police said hundreds of college students were inside. The bar was hosting a “college country night” for students.
Thousand Oaks was recently ranked as one of the safest cities in the country.
Authorities said the gunman has not been identified. They are releasing minimal details, but have confirmed he is 29-years-old. He released a smoke device in the bar to confuse the victims.
