Democrats win supermajorities in Oregon Legislature

KTVZ

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Democrats have won supermajorities in both the Oregon Senate and House.

The Associated Press determined that Democratic candidate Rachel Prusak beat Republican Rep. Julie Parrish to represent District 37, which lies south of Portland.

Democratic senatorial candidate Jeff Golden, a river guide in southern Oregon and public television production manager, edged Republican Jessica Gomez, who was departing GOP Sen. Alan DeBoer’s legislative aide.

The two wins give Democrats three-fifths of the seats in both the Senate and the House, and allow them to pass legislation imposing taxes without Republican votes.
