DCSO searches La Pine area for two burglary suspects
(Update: Evidence suggests suspects were trying to steal a car)
Two burglary suspects ran from Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies investigating a report of suspicious activity at a La Pine-area home Thursday morning, prompting a manhunt, but it appeared they left the area by car.
According to the sheriff’s office, there was evidence the two men were trying to steal a car.
The pair who ran from a home near the intersection of Big Timber Drive and Dawn Road, northwest of La Pine, shortly before 9:30 a.m. “are now suspected of burglary,” sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
They were wearing blue jeans and black jackets, he said. A DCSO K-9 team also was en route to the area.
Residents were advised to expect to see heavily law enforcement presence in the area and to report any sightings or other information to 911.
A short time later, deputies said they believed the pair were picked up in the area by a white or silver four-door sedan, described as similar to a Volvo.
Shortly before noon, Bailey said deputies still were investigating the scene and following up on the car. He noted a nearby crash involving a pickup truck that struck a patrol car had pulled some resources from the area where the search was conducted.
