(Update: Reservations now available on United website)

Central Oregonians wanting to fly to – or make connections – through — Chicago will have a new direct flight to try out next summer, though you might need a pillow: Redmond Municipal Airport’s longest direct connection will be a red-eye flight to the Windy City.

RDM announced Wednesday that United Airlines will offer direct daily service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) next year, beginning June 6.

The seasonal non-stop flights will depart daily from Redmond at 11:45 p.m., arriving in Chicago at 5:15 a.m. Flights from Chicago to Redmond will leave O’Hare at 7:30 p.m. and arrive at RDM at 9:45 p.m.

Ticket reservations are already available on United’s Website, with basic economy costing about $200 one-way and $400 round-trip.

The seasonal flights will continue through Oct. 26.

“This will be the longest eastbound direct flight offered at RDM,” Redmond Mayor George Endicott said. ” United Airlines has more than 500 outbound flights departing daily from Chicago, significantly increasing travel options for Central Oregon business and leisure passengers connecting through O’ Hare Airport.”

The daily non-stop flights will be operated by SkyWest Inc., doing business as United Express, utilizing the Embraer 175 series aircraft, which accommodates up to 76 passengers, configured with 12 recliner seats in first class, 16 seats in the airline’s premium economy-lite section, and 48 seats in coach.

Chicago’s O’Hare airport (ORD) is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. With the assistance of the Central Oregon Air Service Team (COAST) this opportunity was presented to and accepted by United Airlines this month.
