Police still looking for Bend Umpqua Bank robber
(Update: Comments from police; suspect not found so far)
A man wearing a blue baseball cap and possibly a disguise robbed the Umpqua Bank on South Highway 97 in Bend on Friday, prompting an intensive law enforcement search of the area that didn’t find the suspect, officers said.
Bend police, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the reported robbery shortly before noon at 61515 S. Highway 97, across from Fred Meyer.
Officers said the man entered the bank, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount before officers arrived.
No weapons were seen, police said, and there were no injuries.
The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
“Any time you have someone that’s willing to rob a bank in the middle of the day, this is a dangerous person, so we’re going to do our best to try to find them,” Bend police Lt. Jason Maniscalco said.
“We’ll talk with the witnesses on scene, look for video surveillance, both interior and exterior and try to put this one together,” Maniscalco added.
The suspect was described as about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, possibly 25-40 years of age, wearing a blue sweater, blue baseball-style hat and blue pants. He may have been wearing a disguise, police said.
Officers fanned out on numerous streets in the area to look for the robbery suspect.
