Bend Parkway wrong-way driver jailed on DUII charge
A wrong-way driver on the Bend Parkway early Friday morning caused no crashes, as police kept other drivers out of harm’s way until she pulled over and was arrested on DUII and other charges, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Around 3 a.m., a deputy spotted a silver Toyota Highlander heading north in the parkway’s southbound lanes at Reed Market Road, Sgt. Kent Vander Kamp said.
The driver, later identified as Bethany Clare Barndollar, 39, of Bend, did not pull over for emergency lights and sirens until Hawthorne Avenue, Vander Kamp said.
In the meantime, deputies and Bend police were able to stop southbound traffic ahead of Barndollar to prevent a collision, the sergeant said.
After she stopped, the parkway was closed briefly while the SUV was turned around and removed from the highway.
Vander Kamp said investigating deputies ” believe Barndollar was impaired by a combination of alcohol and marijuana. ” He said Barndollar was found to have several controlled substances in her possession at the time of her arrest.
Barndollar was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of DUII, reckless driving and drug possession, including oxycodone. She remained held later Friday morning on $30,000 bail.
