28th Warm Springs Tribal Council sworn in
A standing room-only crowd was on hand Monday morning to witness the swearing in of the 28th Warm Springs Tribal Council.
Some of the council members are going on their third decade of service; some are brand-new.
Glendon Smith is about to begin his first three-year term on the council. He worked as a judge on the Tribal Court for nine years and as secretary treasurer for Warm Springs for 14 months.
NewsChannel 21 asked what was going through his mind on his first day as an official tribal council member.
“I want to wish all the other councilmen well, and I hope we can create some relationships with the surrounding communities,” Smith said. “I’ll try to do the best I can.”
In his first term, Smith said he wants to help create more revenue, jobs and housing. He also wants to explore the idea of putting in a hotel next to the casino on the reservation.
