Plane live fire training planned at Redmond Airport

KTVZ

On Wednesday and Thursday, Redmond Fire and Rescue will be conducting live fire training at the Redmond Municipal Airport for its team of specially trained airport firefighters. Training will take place near the U.S. Forest Service facilities within the airport’s perimeter fence.

Each year, the Federal Aviation Administration requires airport firefighters to complete live fire training to maintain their qualifications.

In the past, Redmond’s team of aircraft firefighters had to travel to various out-of-state training centers to obtain the required training. This year, it has contracted with 139 Fire to bring the required training to the city.

The training prop is a replica of the nose and body of an airplane. It is designed to provide intense, realistic firefighting conditions for the type of commercial aircraft Redmond Fire and Rescue protects at Redmond Airport.

For the first time, they will also be able to train with several mutual aid partners that would be assisting us with an actual commercial aircraft fire. Sunriver Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire District #1 will be attending this training event.
