C. Wash. wildfire grows to 18,000 acres, 25 pct. contained
A fast-moving wildfire in central Washington has grown to nearly 19,000 acres but also has been 25 percent contained by firefighters, KNDU reported Wednesday.
The Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team said no homes have been lost, but one garage was damaged and two injuries have been reported. Resources on the 243 Command Fire in Grant County include 380 personnel and four aircraft.
Level 3 evacuation orders remain in place for Smyrna.
The wildfire is near Wanapum Dam, and grew quickly in dry grass and sage lands on Tuesday.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office also told residents of the communities of Beverly, Schawana and Wanapum Village to be ready to move at a moment’s notice.
Officials say no homes have been consumed by the fire. But power outages hit some areas.
An emergency shelter has been set up in Royal City.
Officials say the fire threatens some homes, crops and other infrastructure.
