Sisters man, 73, pleads not guilty in child porn case

KTVZ

A 73-year-old Sisters man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to 30 charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

A formal indictment reduced the number of charges from the 50 listed when George Staab was arrested May 13 after a raid on his home.

Ten of the charges of encouraging child sexual abuse are first-degree, a Class B felony, that involve actions such as exchanging or printing the material, and the other 20 are second-degree, which are Class C felonies, that relate to observing the pornography, according to the indictment.

Staab posted 10 percent of his $150,000 bail (which initially was $500,000) and was released Tuesday from the Deschutes County Jail, pending Wednesday’s court hearing.

Conditions of his release included no contact with minors or access to the internet or devices that access the internet.

Staab’s three-day trial is scheduled to begin on March 3, 2020.
