Prineville traffic stop finds drugs, guns, cash; driver jailed

A driver who failed to stop at a stop sign was arrested in a Prineville traffic stop Friday evening after a drug-sniffing K-9’s alert turned up two guns, methamphetamine and cash in his rental car, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputy Jordan Friese pulled over the car driven by Theodore Ernest Jokinen, 41, around 5:30 p.m. on Northeast Third Street near Garner Street, sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Bottoms said.

During the stop, Sgt. Mitch Madden deployed drug-detection K-9 Jett, who alerted to the presence of a controlled substance, Bottoms said. A search of the car turned up two Glock handguns — one of them stolen — as well as methamphetamine and cash.

Jokinen was arrested and held without bail Saturday at the county jail on parole violation. He faces new charges of first-degree theft, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, one count of felon in possession of a knife and charges of drug possession, manufacturing and delivery.

Online court records show Jokinen has a lengthy criminal history dating back about 20 years.
