Sheriff investigating threats against Oregon senator

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Polk County Sheriff’s office is investigating death threats against Oregon Sen. Brian Boquist and his family that were made after his own threat to state troopers and the Senate president on the eve of a revolt by GOP senators over a climate-change bill.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Sheriff Mark Garton confirmed the investigation Wednesday.

Two days after Boquist issued his threat June 19 to any state troopers who might attempt to bring him back to the Capitol after he and other Republicans walked out, an anonymous letter arrived at his Dallas home. Garton says a similar letter arrived at Boquist’s Capitol office.

Garton says the letters threatened the lives of Boquist and his family members.

Boquist’s wife Peggy — who is a member of his staff — said she received over 30 threatening voicemails at the office and threatening emails.
