7 arrested in drug raid on SW Redmond home

Seven Redmond residents were arrested Wednesday afternoon in a drug raid on a southwest Redmond home, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

The sheriff’s office Street Crimes Unit served a search warrant around 12:40 p.m. at a home in the 1600 block of Southwest 27th Street, Sgt. William Bailey said.

Bailey said the unit had received information that people at that home were involved in the sales of illegal drugs. He said in a news release the unit members used ” various investigative techniques ” to gather enough evidence to secure the search warrant.

The raid turned up evidence of drug sales and user amounts of methamphetamine and heroin, the sergeant said. All seven were booked into the county jail in Bend on various charges.

Several neighbors in the Redmond community said they are relieved to know that action is finally being taken about their suspicions of drug activity in this area.

One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said the house has had high levels of traffic for over a year and a half, and they feel it’s unsafe for children to walk to nearby Vern Patrick Elementary School.
Another neighbor said several have contacted Redmond police for many months but feel the issue was put off for more pressing matters.

The anonymous neighbor said, ” The biggest obstacle that we ran into with them is that they were unable to do anything with it. They told me the district attorney’s office has a new program where drug crimes or drug offenses in Deschutes County are not a crime, they are a health issue, so they are treated (it) as a health issue and not a criminal issue. ”

Nicole Kane, 45, is charged with possessing methamphetamine, heroin and a Schedule III controlled substance ( Suboxone ), as well as meth and heroin delivery within 1,000 feet of a school. She remained held at the jail Thursday on $80,000 bail.

Tina Hinkle , 50, is charged with heroin possession and frequenting a place where controlled substances are used. She was released on her own recognizance pending an Aug. 2 court date.

Cydnie Lopez, 21, was arrested on a probation violation and remained held without bail Thursday.

Edward Wines, 47, was charged with frequenting a place where controlled substances are used and was released on his own recognizance pending an Aug. 2 court date ..

Ethan Miller, 34, and Tanner Bauldree , 22, were arrested on frequenting charges and probation violations and also remained held without bail.

Mason Marcoulier , 33, was charged with meth possession and frequenting a place where controlled substances are used. He also was released pending an Aug. 13 court date, jail officials said.

Kane, Hinkle , Wines and Miller were living at the raided home, Bailey said.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit focuses enforcement on street-level drug cases and quality of life issues connected to property crimes throughout the county.

Bailey said, ” We know oftentimes there is a correlation between property crimes and drug use. Having community members share with us information when they suspect drug activity at a residence allows us to partner with them to help solve the problem. ”

Bailey encourages neighbors to work with local law enforcement and report any activity that may be suspicious.

The unit was assisted by the Redmond Police Department’s new Street Crimes Unit. ” The city of Redmond on July 1 instituted a full-time Street Crimes Unit that will be working with other public safety partners to address quality of life issues in their community, ” Bailey wrote in a news release.
