Redmond 2040 open house seeks input on city’s future
On Thursday, August 22, from 4-6 p.m., the city of Redmond will host an open house as part of the Redmond 2040 citywide community engagement effort.
Community members will have the opportunity to engage with city employees and provide input on what key concepts should guide Redmond’s future growth, what makes Redmond unique, what is important to preserve and what they would like to see changed.
The Redmond 2040 campaign is a way for the city to receive and consolidate resident input in order to make informed policy changes to the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan sets specific goals that guide growth in the community over the next 20-years.
” It is critical citizens get involved in the planning and design of their community. This open house will provide a fantastic venue to engage citizens in a planning effort that will help guide the vision for the future Redmond, ” said Deborah McMahon, the city’s planning manager.
Redmond last updated its Comprehensive Plan in 2000. Since then, the city has grown to 30,000 residents, and is expected to grow to more than 48,000 by 2040.
The challenge – and opportunity – is to create strategies that preserve and improve assets like Redmond’s thriving industrial businesses, the downtown core, distinct neighborhood identities, and access to outdoor recreation amenities like the Dry Canyon.

The website features several project resources, as well as a short survey designed to solicit the community’s vision for Redmond.
