EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene police say a Portland couple has been arrested in the shooting death of a Lane Community College student.

Eugene Police Detective Jed McGuire said Friday that Regis Kindred, 30, and Kailee Von Foster, 29, who is married to Kindred and also uses that last name, are in custody and accused of murder.

The Register-Guard reports 21-year-old Alex Oyombe Gradin was shot and killed May 4 in a University of Oregon parking lot behind a bar and grill.

McGuire says the shooting happened as the result of gang-related acts, but Gradin was a random victim. He added that the Kindreds and Gradin had not had any contact before Gradin was shot.

McGuire says police are still looking to talk with a potential witness to the shooting, a man so far only known as “Kane” or “Cain.”

It wasn’t known if the couple has a lawyer.
