Walden: Japan trade deal ‘welcome news’ for Oregon

KTVZ

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., on Wednesday applauded an announcement by the United States and Japan that they have a reached a partial trade deal.

Walden said the deal is set to cut tariffs on agriculture and industrial products and will also impact rules regarding digital trade. It is expected to have a significant impact on Oregon wheat, wine, potatoes and beef.

“This trade deal is welcome news for Oregon farmers and ranchers,” Walden said. “I have never been a fan of tariffs, so I am all for cutting the tariffs burdening rural Oregonians.

“This agreement is expected to go into effect as soon as Japan’s legislature ratifies it. This is a win for Oregon Wheat Farmers, and many others in Oregon agriculture. I look forward to seeing this agreement lead to prosperity for many Oregonians.”
