Fire destroys motor home on NE Bend street
(Update: More details from fire officials)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A motor home being lived in on a NE Bend street was destroyed by fire Saturday night, but officials say the resident jumped out a window with his dog to escape and no one was injured.
Crews were called to the fire around 8:25 p.m. in an older 32-foot Winnebago on the street near First Street and Greenwood Avenue, Bend Deputy Fire Marshal Susie Maniscalco said Monday.
The fire was knocked down within several minutes, she said.
The owner, Michael Eaton, told investigators he was sleeping in the bed in the rear of the motor home "when he heard something," Maniscalco said.
He pulled back the curtain, saw a fire on the floor "and then jumped out of a window with his dog, near his bed," she wrote. "He returned to the window, grabbed his phone and called 911."
Maniscalco said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Losses were estimated at $5,000 to the vehicle and $500 in contents.
