La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A La Pine High School English Language Arts teacher was arrested Friday on sex abuse charges alleging she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student nearly a decade ago, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

The sheriff’s office recently received a report from the University of Oregon that a former La Pine High School student had said La Pine High teacher Deborah Parker had a sexual relationship with another then-student during the 2010-11 school year, Detective Sgt. Jayson Janes said.

Detectives were able to locate and interview the former student, who disclosed several incidents of sex abuse involving Deborah Parker, now 55, of Bend, while attending the school, Janes said.

Based on statements from the former student and witness information, detectives obtained a search warrant for Parker and her home, and “were able to collect corroborating evidence and statements,” Janes said.

Parker was contacted Friday at her home and arrested on eight counts of second-degree sex abuse charges. She was booked into the county jail on initial bail of $80,000.

“The sheriff’s office would like to commend the reporting person and the former student for the courageous act of coming forward and sharing this information with law enforcement,” Janes said in a news release.

Anyone who has information regarding Parker having inappropriate relationships with underage students was asked to contact Detective Doug Jackson at 541-617-3352.
