Redmond City Council OKs emergency accommodation rules for wildfire victims

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Redmond City Council met Tuesday night to discuss an important ordinance regarding recreational vehicles in the city.

The council moved forward on an ordinance permitting temporary emergency accommodations for recreational vehicles, trailers and similar vehicles.

This move, similar to a recent one taken in Bend, is specifically to assist those displaced by the state's recent wildfires.

Redmond Mayor George Endicott said despite complaints, this situation is entirely different.

"You know, from time to time we get complaints from people that are in the area," Endicott said. "They don't like what they're seeing, with vehicles parked on the street, and unfortunately we have very few tools available to address it."

The council said in order to prevent negative impacts, these vehicles that can be parked on private property must be temporary and conform with the provisions in the ordinance.

They said the primary goal is to protect individuals displaced by the wildfires during the current state of emergency for Redmond.

The ordinance, which takes effect immediately, said the move is necessary for the 'immediate preservation of the peace, health, and safety of the city."
