Woman held hostage dies and the suspect is arrested after an hourslong standoff near Denver

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (AP) — Police say a woman has been fatally shot and a man has been arrested in a shooting at an apartment building in the Denver suburb of Broomfield. A police spokesperson says officers negotiated with the suspect for 3 1/2 hours on Thursday before using force to enter an apartment. Police say the suspect was holding a woman hostage at the Arista Flats complex. They say the suspect was shot by law enforcement before being arrested. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots coming from the complex. Authorities haven’t released the suspect’s name. The 34-year-old is hospitalized in serious condition.
