Dry and warm weather to close out the first full week of summer
Plenty of sunshine today has allowed the area to reach the upper 70s and low 80s. There continues to be the same type of pattern again today as clouds develop in the heat of the afternoon. The lower levels of the atmosphere are dry, so if there is any rain falling from the base of the clouds, it will most likely evaporate before making it to the ground.
Friday looks to gain a degree or two and top out in the low 80s most spots. The region stays dry with a light breeze, considered pleasant and “summer-like” to many. Enjoy the outdoors, that is why we live here for the most part.
Saturday will be slightly warmer with highs reaching the low to middle 80s and mostly sunny. There will be breezy conditions once again and the risk of fire danger increase with each day of no soaking rains. Stay alert this weekend. Sunday brings back the 90s as the ridge of high pressure develops to our south and provides us with the hot pattern.
Monday will be hot again but there is an area of low pressure slated to develop south of the region and move from south to north on Monday afternoon. There is a chance for us to get some much-needed rain, but it will be accompanied by lightning, so we need to be alert for the dangers of the lightning. The best chance to see rain will be in the heat of the day as the warmth percolates the region for some pop up storms. Unfortunately, the chance for widespread “wetting rain” is not being offered up by any of the computer models.
Currently we are in a dry and warm summer pattern, enjoy the quiet and dry pattern and all that Central Oregon has to offer. It would be nice to get some rain.
The Climate Prediction Center has issued the Drought Monitor for the week. Central Oregon is now completely under the “Abnormally Dry” category.
According to the CPC
“…short-term precipitation deficits are growing, streamflow is lower in spots, vegetation is struggling and soil moisture deficits are developing”
Please stay safe and have fun.
