Sisters firefighters extinguish chicken coop blaze

Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Firefighters from three districts quickly extinguished a chicken coop fire at 16615 Bitterbrush Ln. in Sisters, Ore., on April 29, 2026, preventing its spread to surrounding trees. The blaze, which was reported at approximately 12:07 a.m., was determined to have been caused by a heat lamp placed too close to combustible materials. All animals were safely evacuated from the chicken coop before emergency crews arrived on scene.

The incident began when a homeowner called 911 to report the chicken coop was on fire and that flames were spreading to nearby trees. Fire crews from Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District, Black Butte Ranch Fire District and Cloverdale Fire District responded to the call. Their coordinated efforts successfully knocked down the fire, stopping its extension into the surrounding areas and trees.

The cause of the fire was definitively identified as a heat lamp positioned too close to other materials that could easily catch fire. Following the incident, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District issued a reminder to residents about critical fire safety measures. The district emphasizes the importance of evacuating immediately and staying out of a burning building, while calling 911 from a safe location.

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District also advises residents to implement appropriate safety measures when using equipment in enclosed areas. This includes ensuring functioning smoke detectors are in place and that fire extinguishers are readily accessible for immediate use.
