Sneezing more lately? Central Oregon allergens are surging again

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Allergy symptoms are currently high in the High Desert region, leading many people to experience sniffling and sneezing. Local specialists at Central Oregon Ear, Nose and Throat note elevated allergen levels in the area.

Over-the-counter antihistamines such as Flonase and Zyrtec are recommended for quick relief of symptoms.

If symptoms are severe or over-the-counter medications are not effective, professional medical advice may be necessary.

Sarah Richter, from Central Oregon Ear, Nose and Throat, explained that a mild winter has resulted in increased allergens in the area.

"We have had, obviously, a light winter. However, we've had a lot of allergens here in the area that have increased and it just seems that the volume is extremely turned up here in the area. Allergens are at a high right now. I think it's oak and grasses are kind of getting with the program," Richter said. She identified oak and grasses as current active allergens.

Central Oregon Ear, Nose and Throat offers testing services to determine specific allergens affecting individuals. The clinic then provides tailor-made treatments designed to address these particular allergies and symptoms.

These personalized treatment options can include a specially curated medicine that patients take a few drops of every day, moving beyond traditional shots or pills.
