Central Oregon law enforcement to boost traffic patrols for summer events

KTVZ-TV

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Central Oregon law enforcement agencies will increase traffic patrols and enforcement efforts from June 10 through June 14, 2026. The Central Oregon Multi-Agency Traffic Team (MATT) is coordinating the enforcement due to the busy start of the summer season and local events, including the Sisters Rodeo.

The enhanced enforcement aims to promote safe driving behaviors and reduce the risk of serious crashes. This initiative coincides with several events taking place throughout the region, including major activities at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, increased visitor travel and end-of-school celebrations.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is serving as the lead agency for this June enforcement detail. The Oregon State Police High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) Unit is also active in the area. Participating agencies will conduct enhanced traffic safety patrols throughout the week, with a particular emphasis on evening and nighttime hours when event activities conclude and traffic volumes are highest.

MATT's enforcement efforts will concentrate on deterring impaired driving and enforcing DUII violations. The agencies will also target SOLID-related violations, which are leading contributors to serious injury and fatal crashes. SOLID stands for Speed, Occupant Protection, Lane Departure, Impairment and Distraction.

These coordinated enforcement efforts are intended to reduce crashes, prevent injuries and help ensure community events throughout Central Oregon remain safe for everyone. MATT encourages all individuals to plan ahead for a safe ride home, avoid impaired driving, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions and always wear a seat belt.
