Sisters Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of Woodlands development

Sisters Habitat for Humanity

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Sisters Habitat for Humanity marked a major milestone on May 29, celebrating the completion of its Woodlands development and the dedication of its newest homes. Four new homeowners were welcomed by the organization and community members at the ceremony.

The Woodlands development is a vibrant 10-cottage project designed to provide local families and individuals with permanent housing. While four families had already moved into their homes earlier, the final two homes are expected to be occupied in the coming months. These homes are sold at approximately half of market value, made possible by the contributions of more than 100 people, including staff members, business partners, volunteers and donors.

The residents welcomed at the dedication ceremony shared emotional stories, with a common theme that they once believed owning a home in Sisters was out of reach. The cottages aim to provide these families with stability, peace of mind and a true sense of belonging. Sisters Habitat Executive Director Peter Hoover for Humanity, described the broader impact of the organization's work. "We are building the infrastructure of a sustainable community, ensuring that Sisters remains a place where everyone who contributes to our vibrant life here can afford to stay," Hoover said. With the Woodlands development now complete, Sisters Habitat for Humanity is turning its attention to its next project, Larch Commons, which is described as its most ambitious goal to date.

The first round of homeownership applications for Larch Commons is expected to open in the coming months. Individuals interested in learning more or joining the notification list can visit www.sistershabitat.org.
