Mountain View Community Development to open new Bend microshelter site for people experiencing homelessness

Mountain View Community Development

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Mountain View Community Development will host an open house at its newest site in Bend on Thursday, June 25, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event, held at Community of Christ at 20380 Cooley Road, offers guests an opportunity to tour a microshelter and learn about the nonprofit organization's services for unhoused people in Central Oregon.

The new site is scheduled to officially open on July 1 and marks Mountain View Community Development's fourth location in Bend and its twelfth across the region. This expansion is part of the nonprofit's ongoing efforts to provide supportive housing solutions and case management for people experiencing homelessness.

Community of Christ currently hosts five microshelters on its property. These structures are designed to be compact, similar to a garden shed, and include essential amenities such as a bed, a mini fridge and climate control with both heating and cooling systems. The nonprofit manages site operations and delivers case management services aimed at assisting residents in achieving their long-term housing goals.

In addition to the microshelter program, Mountain View Community Development also operates Safe Parking sites. These sites provide people living in recreational vehicles and other vehicles with a secure, legal and sanitary place to stay. Case managers are available at these locations to support individuals working toward stable housing.

Mountain View Community Development has helped more than 100 people transition into stable housing through its various programs.
