Bend Fire & Rescue battles structure fire, damage estimated at $75,000

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire at 21312 Evelyn Court shortly before 5 pm. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the front of the home and the back porch fully involved in flames. The crews quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading further.

The structure fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage.

Bend Fire Department responded to the scene with three fire engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances and three investigators.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Bend Fire & Rescue reminds residents that Central Oregon is currently experiencing extreme fire conditions. The department advises caution when operating barbecues or warming fires where permitted.

Residents should also be careful with spark or ember producing equipment and properly dispose of smoking materials. Taking a few extra precautions can help reduce the risk of accidental fires and protect lives and property.

Specific recommendations from Bend Fire & Rescue include ensuring water is always on site nearby, disposing of ashes in a noncombustible container and remaining alert to ember producing equipment.
