The Oregon Community Foundation said it is heartbroken by the tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary School, particularly on behalf of its team members and community partners in Bend.
In a statement, the foundation extended its thoughts to the students, families, educators and first responders affected by the violence.
The foundation said its immediate priority is to listen to community partners in Bend to understand the most urgent needs. Its local team is in close contact with friends and colleagues as the community determines what support will be most helpful.
The organization is also coordinating with other Oregon funders to align support efforts. Through its Rapid Response Fund, the foundation plans to make resources available to help address short-term community needs as they emerge.
The foundation said it will continue assessing community needs and working with partners to help ensure support reaches the areas where it can have the greatest impact.

Silver Moon to donate all sales and donations to families
Silver Moon co-owner Steve Augustyn is inviting the community to gather at the pub Wednesday, Oct. 21, for an event supporting families who have experienced loss as a result of the tragedy.
Augustyn said his family has longstanding ties to Silver Rail, with all three of his young sons having attended the school. Their youngest child is currently in fourth grade there.
In a message to the community, Augustyn said he hopes Silver Moon can serve as a gathering place where people can come together, support one another and talk openly about their feelings in the wake of the tragedy.
Augustyn said 100% of all sales and donations — every dollar spent, not just the profits — will go to the affected families or a charity of their choosing.
