PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 2-year-old child was run over and fatally injured Thursday evening northwest of Prineville, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Undersheriff James Savage said deputies, Crook County Fire and Rescue medics and Oregon State Police were sent just before 6 p.m. to the medical call in the 4800 block of Northwest Charles Road.

They learned the child had been run over by a vehicle on the property, Savage said. Life-saving efforts were attempted and the child was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Prineville, where the child later succumbed to injuries.

“(An) investigation determined it was an awful accident,” Savage said in a news release.

Names were withheld, pending family notification and out of “respect for family while they deal with the tragic loss,” the undersheriff said.

No other information was immediately released.
